Already in 1398 there was a thens-house on this place. The farmer had to bring their thenths to this place. Back then, Weinfelden has belonged to Zürich.
The first mentioned Innkeepers name was Suter. He was known as a trustworthy man. Under his ownership in 1649, the Trauben got his final shape as you can see it now. A row of Innkeepers from the family Brenner followed Suter. They were a very ambitious family and were also judges, coucilers and church-tutelors. Therefore the meetings were held at the “Gerichtsherrenstube”. The gentlemen from the court even mouved there meetings from the town hall in to this room because it was more stately. It became office department from the rule of Zürich shortly before the french revolution. From then on the court proceedings took place at the Trauben. 1808 the Inn went in to privat hand. 1956 was a dangerous year for the Trauben. There was the threat that the Trauben was to be put down, to make place for a big store. But luckily, some people founded the “Traubenfoundaiton” and the house was safed and renovated. 1981 there was the last change of property. It came in to the hands of the Bürgergemeinde Weinfelden. That was a very lucky solution. Since then many renovation were made, but always remembering the history of the Trauben and also not forgetting the present and the future. Our restaurant was renovated in summer 2003 very carefully but with some courageous accents. Our long table (four meters long) with its read chairs, is the a real jewell of the restaurant and everybody meets there.
